Events, guests' stories & the region

Festivals and automatic events with their set dressing, guests with a wish, neighbouring resorts and the Green Resort award.

#The Events calendar

The Marketing drawer with the Events calendar: festival cards with cost, length and requirements.
The Events calendar sits under the campaigns in the Marketing drawer.

Open Marketing: below the campaigns sits the Events calendar. It lists what is running now, what is coming up (you can cancel a booking before it starts and get 80 % back), and a card for every festival you can book: cost, length, extra guests, what it needs and a start date to pick. A card is greyed out with the reason (not enough stars, no Base Lodge, wrong season, level too low) until you qualify.

While a festival runs every guest is a little happier and more people turn up. Prices go into the same marketing line of the books as campaigns.

Most events are booked from the card. A few simply happen: the Almabtrieb (the herds come down from the alpine pastures in autumn, if you own an Alpine Farm with cows), New Year, a critic visit and powder days.

#You can see it, too

Every running festival dresses the village. Bunting and flags go up along the road near the bottom lift station, banners carry the festival name, market stalls open beside the road and a procession walks through in the daytime: decorated cows for the Almabtrieb, costumed revellers at the Carnival. The World Cup adds a grandstand and a finish arch at the foot of a black piste, and racers on the run. When it is over everything is taken down. The dressing is purely for looks: it never blocks building or walking.

Fireworks are rare and brief: New Year's Eve and the last night of a festival, only after dark. They are skipped when Settings → Feedback intensity is Off.

#Guests with a story

A few guests in a hundred arrive with a name and one wish: ski five runs, try a black run, have a proper meal, get a drink at the après bar, take a lesson, go on a hike, avoid long queues or simply have a good day. Click them to see the wish and how far along it is.

A story guest: a name, one wish, and Pin and Follow buttons.
  • Pin keeps the guest in the card; Follow makes the camera keep them in view. Closing the card undoes both.
  • You cannot steer story guests. They are ordinary guests, so the only way to grant a wish is to run a good resort. A happy ending earns a small tip and a line in the news; a miss leaves a mild review in the Reviews tab. Nothing else.

#The region

You are not alone in the valley. Two or three neighbouring resorts compete for the same visitors. They are not simulated in detail; each has a star level that creeps up slowly over the years and a ticket price. Open the rating panel (click the stars) to see your market standing: your slice of the regional visitors and your rank among the nearby resorts.

The rating panel open under the stars: bars for each part of the score including sustainability and a market line against nearby resorts.
The rating panel: one bar per facet, now with sustainability, and where you stand in the region.
  • A better rating and a fair price than the neighbours bring a few more guests (at most about +12 %); lagging behind costs up to 10 %. A new resort is not judged during its first month and only fully after about half a year, and in the tutorial and in scenarios the standing is shown but never changes arrivals.
  • The news mentions it only when the leader changes.
  • The year report has a The region row: how you ranked and a bar for each resort.

#Sustainability and the Green Resort

The rating has one more bar: sustainability, worth 8 % of your score. It rewards three things:

  1. Energy per guest: lifts and snow cannons that burn little for each visitor.
  2. Trees: felling forest costs points, planting saplings earns them back. The first few percent are free: everyone has to build somewhere.
  3. Habitat: pistes, paths and buildings in dense forest crowd the wildlife. Trained rangers (see Operations & safety) halve this penalty.

The panel's hint names the weakest of the three. A resort that scores well all year earns the Green Resort award in the year report (bronze, silver, gold).
